There's no time like the present.
So I was in Portland, Oregon back in October of last year to visit my BFFL, Kaycie.
Kaycie has been living in Portland for a few years now and I have so much fun and decide I want to move there every time I go to visit her. Last year, she bought her first house and I’m so proud of and excited for her! Plus, now I get my own bedroom when I visit, hehehe.
I had a great experience the first time I rented a bike in Portland so I decided to go back to Everybody's Bike Rentals once again.
They have a variety of different style bikes available for rent - the first time, I rented a “City Quick” bike, which has a road frame and wheels with flat handlebars. This time, I opted for the '“City Comfort,” which was a bike built for a more upright riding position that also came with fenders (important in the Portland rain!). The City Comfort bikes are custom built from a variety of older frames and parts. I wound up with a Bridgestone frame and some swept back handlebars:
The details of this ride are a bit fuzzy, for a variety of reasons, but I can assure you that we had a good time, especially since we were riding in the perfect fall weather.
We rode around NE Portland, taking in the sights, but mostly taking in food and drinks:
I love riding in Portland since it is such a bicycle-friendly city. The Neighborhood Greenways are low-traffic and low-speed streets that, “prioritize walking, bicycling, and rolling.”
The network of Greenways spans a large swath of the city and additional paths are already funded as part of the Portland Bicycle Plan for 2030.
Other highlights of the day include our Halloween masks (it was Halloween weekend!), Kaycie getting pooped on, and drinks at a beautiful bar filled with plants:
I’m sure we took our time riding home, wrapping up the 14 miles or so that we covered. As always, it was great to be in Portland but it’s better when you can ride bikes with your best friend.
