Century Ride
I did it. I finally did it! I completed my first century ride, racking up 107 miles along the Empire State Trail, from Brooklyn to Poughkeepsie. Joe from 718 created this NYC to Poughkeepsie route, which I attempted last fall. Despite having good intentions, I didn’t leave my apartment until 11 AM, so I was losing daylight by seventy-five miles and ended the ride at Brewster.
On Saturday, 5/6/2023, I resolved to finally, finally try this full century ride to Poughkeepsie. Enough talking about it! The only thing was, this decision was made on Friday so I didn’t put much thought into anything, which led to much regret and many lessons learned. A brief recap of the ride:
I didn’t eat enough
I experienced a lot of pain in my right knee
I didn’t eat enough
I got a migraine at mile forty-nine and had to sit and earnestly contemplate if I could ride fifty+ more miles
I started eating everything
I kept eating everything
I saved a turtle
I had a headwind ALL DAY
I got a little lazy
I got excited when I FINALLY reached some downhill at mile eighty-two (LOL)
I celebrated with beers (DUH)
I guess this is a lazy version of a blog, because I’m basically turning it into a vlog. I don’t know what the heck I’m doing but I made this video of footage from the day, so enjoy and know that I talk to myself so much that I can be alone on my bike for eight hours, no problem:
