Henri was my main squeeze this weekend.

Henri was my main squeeze this weekend.

The TD 5 Boro Bike Tour by Bike New York was scheduled for this past Sunday, 8/22, but Hurricane/Tropical Storm Henri had other plans in mind. Bike New York contacted participants on Friday night to inform them that the ride had been moved to next Sunday, 8/29. Fortunately, I’m free that day so I’ll still be able to attend.

With the bike tour postponement, I wanted to at least get a ride in before all the rain. I hopped on the Pack Rat, filled my Little Bike Bag with a beer, explored some smaller parks near me and then followed the bike lane on Bergen until I connected to Prospect Park.

I headed into the park with the goal of finding a place to enjoy my beer before heading back home. I spotted the dog beach on the other side of a small pond and pedaled over there to sit and watch the dogs in the water. This is apparently what I do for fun now. Do you think the owners think it’s creepy that I sit and watch them play with their dogs?

I spent way too much money getting this 21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon beer delivered to me but I hadn’t had it all summer and justified the expense that way.

After finishing my beer, I was motivated to head home since I had planned to order some bao for dinner (I love food). It was nice getting a quick, little ride in. In the past, I have always had this idea that my rides have to be long and arduous to mean something. But these short little jaunts that I’m going on now remind me how much fun it is to just ride my bike, without much of a goal. I don’t know how to relax but I think these rides are helping me move in the right direction.

As a side note, I have plans to add the Surly 8 Pack rack to the front of this bike but failed miserably when trying to install it on Friday night. These V brakes are the bane of my existence so I’m hoping that my visit to a local bike kitchen will be a productive one and that I can get help from some knowledgeable people. Once the rack is installed, it will be even easier to bike around with beer.

Later on in the evening, Henri arrived, so Sunday was spent reading and doing some yoga. I had some intentions to ride on my trainer but there was also the remainder of that six pack that needed to be finished.
