Blizzard Prep

I worked from home yesterday because I was finally able to get a plumber into my apartment to fix a leak that has been active since NOVEMBER. It took a few timely threats but finally, the repair has been made!

Working from home made it easy to hop on my bike as soon as my day was over. My original plan was to ride my trainer at some point during the day but the sun was shining and I hadn’t left my apartment at all so I figured I would take my Pack Rat out.

I’ve been wanting to go to Other Half Brewing for a while and since we’re getting predictions of up to a foot of snow this weekend, I thought it would be nice to get in a ride outside before the storm hits. The real feel was about 30 degrees and I wore leggings under my jeans but still had trouble keeping my legs warm enough! I’ll need to look into a better base layer for that but the rest of my body felt great. I wore a new thermal cycling headband from Bontrager and it was exactly what I’ve been needing for these colder rides; I tend to get pretty hot when I ride, even in the winter, so this headband kept my ears warm but still allowed heat to escape from the remainder of my head during the ride.

I started off with a quick short cut through Prospect Park and took the 9th Avenue bike path over to Red Hook. I don’t use this bike path that often but it is a pretty decent one, especially when you’re riding West and heading downhill.

I got to Other Half and was a little surprised to find that there was no bicycle parking but I made do with a no parking sign. I purchased a few four packs: Green Flowers (a west coast IPA), Blue Crab (an IPA), and DDH Green City (a hazy east coast IPA and a favorite of mine), and a hat because I’m a sucker for merch (scroll down for a pic of me and Martin van Buren), and then I loaded up my basket and headed back east.

It was a really great night to ride and I took my time getting home, stopping to admire some of the interesting buildings I passed.

Since I am working on being more present and in less of a rush, I decided I’d cut back through Prospect Park and enjoy the sunset with a beer.

There were tons of people at the park last night, considering how cold it was, but it was nice to see! I’m glad I spent some time there before heading home.

When I got home, I tried on my hat and harassed Martin:

He wasn’t thrilled.

 It's official.
